Record Of The Week - Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Rignt

Following the death of Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys, Koothoomi Records have made Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right our record of the week.

The US rapper - better known as MCA - died from cancer just before the start of the bank holiday weekend, aged just 47.

In a statement on the band's Facebook Mike D described MCA as a "brother" who they'll miss "so much".

"He really served as a great example for myself and so many of what determination, faith, focus, and humility coupled with a sense of humor can accomplish. The world is in need of many more like him. We love you Adam."

Koothoomi Records have had a new delivery of plenty of vinyl records to whet your appetite, these include Kylie Minogue, New Kids On The Block, Happy Mondays, and Basement Jaxx to name but a few.

Joh Peel's Record Collection

We thought we had a huge collection of vinyl records here at Koothoomi Records, however names of the first 100 albums of the late DJ John Peel's record collection have been published online.

Behind the project is The John Peel Centre, in Stowmarket, called The Space, which aims to recreate the late broadcaster's home studio and library.

John Peel had a collection of about 26,000 vinyl albums. The names of about 100 will be added in alphabetical order each week.

Among the first artists are Abba, ABC, AC/DC and Adam & The Ants.

The website does not allow users to listen to the albums but there will be links to other websites which offer this.

There should be 2,600 album names put online by October, which is the period covered by Arts Council funding for the project.

Record Store Day 2012 - Only For Physical Stores

Record Store Day 2012 is held on Saturday 21st April which is in aid of supporting independent record stores.

Koothoomi Records however are not allowed to participate as we do not have a physical store. The reason we do not have a physical store is simply because we cannot afford the overheads which come with running a store, such as rent, electricity and the many other bills.

So we are in a catch 22 situation, if we had run a physical store we would have gone out of business a long time ago, but been able to stock Record Store Day releases, but as we are only online and still in business we cannot stock Record Store Day releases.

I shall leave it on that note and say Record Store Day is a great idea and we fully support it, but come the 21st April please do remember to support your local record store whether that be a physical or online store.
